At any moment I'm casually planning five different trips and just waiting for the time (and funds) to take them. So before I'd even booked time off this fall, I was running through my list: a shoulder-season adventure to the Amalfi Coast? Or is this the year I finally get to New York City? I wasted no time bookmarking restaurants and asking friends for recommendations. | But as the cost-of-living crisis worsens here in Europe and around the world, planning a vacation with winter bills looming started to seem less than prudent. So I won't be jetting off anywhere – but that won't stop me from exploring. I'm moving to a new Dublin neighborhood and can't wait to uncover my new favorite haunts. As for my week off? I'll swap the city for a week of house-sitting on Ireland's beautiful west coast. | I always thought that I felt more tuned-in to life – and more like myself – when I was traveling. But when the pandemic hit, I had to learn to bring all that curiosity and joy to my everyday life, and I'm so glad I did. I'll be putting that lesson to good use once again this fall – and those half-planned trips will still be waiting for me when the time comes. | | | | How the death of Queen Elizabeth will impact travel | Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the UK is in a period of mourning. I've spent a lot of time there for work, but I can't wait to call it home. Here's why: It's a glimpse of historic Dublin… History is found on every street in the Liberties, from remnants of the medieval city walls to memorials to Irish revolutionaries. If you're planning to visit the Storehouse, combine it with a walking tour of the neighborhood and you'll get a true sense of its significance. If you're short on time, a stroll down Meath Street takes you straight to the heart of the community. …Where new and old come together Unsurprisingly in a neighborhood this old, the Liberties are always evolving. New cafes, bars and art spaces are always springing up among the established favorites, so you're sure to find what you're looking for – whether that's a cheese toastie and a Guinness in a cozy pub (try a classic like Fallon's), or a pizza and an espresso martini (check out the newer Lucky's). | | | More travel news you can use | | | | The 15 best road trips in Europe | Europe is still facing chaos in airports around the continent – but that just means it's the ideal time to plan a road trip that will take you from ancient ruins to incredible vineyards.
