I’m obsessed with National Parks worldwide. Every year, I try to visit a new one and I’m nerdy enough that I keep track of my visits to US parks with stamps in a National Park Passport. (Highly recommend.)
And this week, just in time for Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, there’s a lot of news about the parks. Google announced it would update Google Maps to include each park's main attractions, research and navigate popular trails, and offer downloadable maps for offline use. This functionality rolls out first in the US followed by parks worldwide.
April 22 also marks the launch of National Park Week in the US and is one of five days that US National Parks will waive entrance fees. So, if you live in the USA and don’t have Saturday plans, let me offer this suggestion: find your park.
And if you aren’t in the US or you simply can’t get to a park near you, here are some other suggestions for your weekend.
✅ Watch the Ken Burns documentary National Parks: America’s Best Idea
✅ Watch Our Great National Parks on Netflix about parks worldwide narrated by former President Barack Obama.
✅ Listen to the Glacier National Park podcast
✅ Create an account on Lonely Planet to start researching and saving our great guidance for your next National Park visit.
Meanwhile, if you haven’t checked out the National Park Service Instagram account lately, it is a must-follow for a timeline cleanser that brings a bit of joy to your day.
