 | Deepa Lakshmin perched above Chefchaouen, Morocco | | | Part of my job as Director of Social Media here at Lonely Planet is to visit to places I've never been and share a first-timer's insight. I took my first to Morocco for last summer, and I was lucky Rabat, the capital, became my entry to everything Morocco has to offer. But, since the whole country is on our 2024 Best in Travel list, I couldn’t stop at just one city, so I hopped on a bus tour for a whirlwind week full of tagines, mint tea, bustling medinas and a few bouts of food poisoning. (Hey, it happens!) There was so much to see (and buy) everywhere: handcrafted mosaics, vibrant rugs and smooth leather. I like to buy from locals who are kind enough to share their culture and community with travelers like myself. I’ll return, with extra room in my suitcase to take back gifts for my family, friends and (obviously) myself.
